London Gov

Caroline Russell has lived in Islington since 1986. She has worked as an artist, bicycle dispatch rider, community arts leader, university lecturer, full-time parent, and most recently local councillor. Russell is one of two Green Party representatives on the London Assembly and is a councillor for Highbury East. She is also the national transport spokesperson for the Green Party, a community activist, and a clean air campaigner.

Russell has campaigned on a lot of issues such as calling for investment in Highbury Corner. She also successfully made the case for 20 mph limits on main roads in Islington to create a safer atmosphere for cyclists and pedestrians, as well as campaigning London-wide for inclusive streets that work for pedestrians as a member of the Living Streets London Action Group. She led one of the first citizen science projects in 2011 that revealed pollution levels on Blackstock Rd were 75% above EU safety limits.

Russell is a tireless campaigner who stands up for what she believes in. She injects creativity into all of her campaigns, and is passionate about creating lasting, sustainable changes that will benefit the future of Islington.
