Jessica Plummer

Islington Council

Jessica Plummer is an Islington parent-hero who is on a mission to teach young people about knife crime. After losing her son Shaquan Sammy-Plummer in 2015, she speaks up about the senseless murder. On the topic, she said:

It’s about sitting with them, listening to them and understanding. Remember: young people need somebody they can trust, because they don’t trust anyone.

It’s about making a positive change in order for us to be able to get to the root of the problem. Even if I’ve got the foundation, I do not have the answer for knife crime. All I can do is give my input and work together in order for us to learn.

Plummer has used her pain, anger, and grief to spread awareness and raise money to support other young people in similar situations. She has campaigned tirelessly both locally and nationally and is such an inspirational figure. It is so hard to mobilise negative emotions into something good, but here is a woman who is standing up for young people and trying to create a safer world.
